Forum: GratefulDead Subject: looking for an artist.....

For a while (quite some time ago)I was in the habit of DL'ing a song or two from several random artist on LMA and making mix CD's to listen to at work, with the intention of finding new(to me)artist to dig on. I found one of these cd's yesterday and took it to work today, low and behold I found a song that I DUG, put the player on repeat and listened to it 6-8 times and was still really diggin it. Heres the problem, the cd has no label. so I am hoping one of you is familiar with the artist/song( I know its a LONG shot). The man singing could almost pass as Gregg Allman, two acoustics, bass and drums.Sounds like it was at a party or something ( about 4 people clap)so I am pretty sure it isn't any of the bigger names. Sample of lyrics."....the cops rolled in without a sound...". "times goin your life is changin(?something like that), nothin left to do but play, boy your headed the wrong way..." I would assume the name of the song is something along the line of "boy your headed the wrong way". ANYONE venture a clue? I am real interested in finding more of their stuff.

Train Song

Train this morning, she ran a little late. Filled with people, don't know love from hate. Time stole their lives away, nothing left to do but play and boy your heading the wrong way. Rain was falling, we couldn't budge the ground. Clouds rolled in without a sound. Don't matter what your daddy say there's nothing left to do but play and boy your heading the wrong way. Dream is there and then it's gone, your memory lies and it pulls you on. Caught by something bigger than this storm. People become shadows then that stranger over there used to be your friend, then you'll have to face yourself alone. Someday you'll have to face yourself alone. Train this morning she ran a little late. Filled with people simple pawns of fate. Time stole their lives away there's nothing left to do but play, boy your heading the wrong way.

Well....that was kinda disappointing....I don't really dig the raucous, hard driving rock n roll thing I'm hearing there. The version I have on cd is all acoustic stripped down, sounds real nice, I am hoping I can find the show I got it from and I hope it is all like that, cause I think I would dig their stuff if it was all acoustic. If I would have by luck of the draw got any of the other songs I just skimmed thru I would have hit the skip and never thought of them again. I'll link the one I have on disk if I can find it,it's a whole head and shoulders better than any of the ones I just checked out.

EDIT....just found a show with acoustic version of this song and several others GOOD STUFF!! The picking is superb, sounds like a whole different band. I wish they didn't do the electric shit, I had to search through 15 shows before I finally found it....it was worth it to me. Thanks again guys. Heres the link to this one http://www.archive.org/details/allgood1994-01-06shnf
check out the train song.

hey I like "needle-in-the-haystack" games as much as anyone, but this is a tricky one.

I have listened to a lot of stuff on here but it doesn't sound fimiliar; though a lot of stuff still translates to a small percentage of what is available. Plus I didn't find anything with lyric searches either.

If you don't get any hits, is there another archive forum where your request could be posted to get a wider audience? In this case you might be looking for the artist to see it and say: "hey that is me..."

Now I want to hear it with the double basses and all...

I'm sorry, I may have misstated, there was no discernible double bass just two reg acoustic guitars, bass and drums. They just sounded like the standard 5 piece band but I really dug the playing and the vocals. I really wish I had labeled the disk!!! The song also contains lyrics...."then you'll have to face yourself alone, someday you'll have to face yourself alone".The song gives the impression(to me) of maybe getting busted and realizing that your dad told you all this stuff would happen "boy your headed the wrong way", anyhow I have listened to quite a lot of bands that I have never heard of (THANK YOU LMA!!!) and have found most of them to be so-so but I would really like to hear some more from this mystery band. I also tried lyric searches and came up with nothing. Thank you for responding veblin.

Takes veblens advice and try the main forum. The moderators there are pretty knowledgeable if the forum can't help you.
